Trying to Learn How to Blog!

Friday, 07/15/2017

I have wanted to have a website and a blog for a while now.  It looks like this may become one of those hobbies I mentioned. That is if I can figure it out! I have been working on the blog a lot this past week. I am still trying to make it mine so to speak. I did a lot reading on different aspects of it. I also purchased a professionally made theme. Hopefully, I can make it look and function the way I am starting to imagine it in my head. I do have a little experience (very little) in posting and customizing a blog due to a short term assignment I had at work a couple of years ago. However, the old saying is true, when you don’t use it you lose it.  I also think it would be a good idea to learn about APIs, in particular the I want learn how to incorporate the Google Map API into the website.  That will come in handy when we start to travel more. I have found a lot of interesting articles on blogging out there this week. I may share some of them later as a few friends have expressed interest in learning also.

The theme is Caliber and I purchased it at It looks like it has a lot of capabilities. There are tutorials on YouTube for it and I will have to watch a few of them to see what tricks I can learn. I would have done this a long time ago if I had known it was so reasonably priced to do so. You can create a blog on and other sites for free or pay for hosting to have a .com address; which is what I did. The hosting ended up costing only a couple of dollars a month.

I do have a glitch in the website right now and I am sure it is something I am either doing incorrectly or a setting I mistakenly set. When you come to the front page I want it to be a static page and have the blog on a separate page. I have changed the settings every way I can think of, but it is not working the way it appears it should. I may have been working on it too long and the answer is probably right in front of me. I will try to figure it out tomorrow.
